Global demand for meat and seafood continues to grow. Global meat consumption is estimated to increase by at least 50% by 2050, compared to 2012 levels.

Producing meat from plants, animal cells, or through fermentation can help meet this growing demand in ways that strengthen and diversify global supply chains, preserve land and water resources, reduce emissions, protect public health, stimulate thriving bioeconomies, and usher in a new chapter in agricultural innovation.

"When we talk about the alternative protein sector, we have to see the food chain in a systemic way. The scarcity of quality food is intrinsically linked to the fact that we produce food to feed animals and then eat these animals in a calculation that is extremely inefficient. With the vegetables that are already planted today, we could feed three times the world's population. Removing animals and animal products from your plate is the most effective personal act you can do today to avoid food shortages, climate change, chronic diseases and pandemics.
