To analyze the international regulatory scenario for proteins obtained by fermentation, information was collected on current legislation (laws, decrees, regulations, guidelines) applicable to alternative proteins produced by fermentation in the European Union, United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, Singapore, Israel, China, India and Japan. In addition to international legislation, the Codex Alimentarius guidelines were also included.
It is important to emphasize that in all these countries, regulation is general for “novel foods”. As far as availability is concerned, we highlight the items that specifically deal with proteins obtained by fermentation.
