The Good Food Institute (GFI) is a non-profit, philanthropically funded organization working to transform the food supply chain. To this end, we support the development of the alternative protein sector, especially the market for meat, eggs, and plant-based dairy products, whether cultivated or obtained through fermentation. The possibilities for food innovation are endless. There are already many excellent plant-based alternatives to industrially cultivated products. However, in Brazil, we are privileged to have vast biodiversity in our biomes, with the potential to transform sustainably managed products into ingredients for the plant-based product market. By working with the potential of our biodiversity, the Food Technology Specialist will identify new ingredients that can add value to native products and can be applied to plant-based products, making them genuinely Brazilian, while preserving the ecosystem from the perspective of the sustainable use of natural resources. In this role, the Food Technology Specialist will help build the market for plant-based products with ingredients from Brazilian biodiversity. Its focus will be on developing the project "Alternative proteins from products of the Amazon and Cerrado biomes", including collaborating in building a relationship with professionals from producing communities, cooperatives, researchers and government agents who work in these ecosystems. As a Food Technology Specialist, you will conduct research to gather technical, production, and scientific data on various products from the Amazon and Cerrado biomes. These data will be selected and included in a research funding call to be launched by GFI. You will be responsible for: Liaising with professionals from diverse cultural, social, and economic backgrounds, such as producer communities, cooperatives, scientists, and government officials; Researching scientific articles and other data sources; Writing articles, reports, and other scientific and technical documents in Portuguese and English; Monitoring project stages and proposing adjustments if necessary; Planning and organizing technical and outreach events; Giving presentations on the project topic in Portuguese and English; Coordinating meetings with key stakeholders for project development; Evaluating alternative protein research projects; Analyzing data to identify ingredients with technical and commercial potential for the plant-based market, using products from Brazilian biodiversity. Perform other functions related to the development of alternative proteins, as designated. What are we looking for? The Food Technology Specialist must have: Stricto Sensu Postgraduate Degree in Food Engineering, Food Technology, Food Science or related fields; Experience in conducting scientific research, including bibliographic survey, analysis of scientific literature, data collection and conducting literature reviews. Knowledge of food processing, food chemistry, chemical, physical and biological processes for extracting food ingredients of plant origin. Desirable work experience in research and development of food ingredients from native products of the Amazon and/or Cerrado biomes; Desirable experience with productive communities of food or ingredients from the Amazon and/or Cerrado biomes; Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Portuguese; Desirable reading and interpretation skills in English; Commitment to project results. The selection process will take place in two phases, as follows: Phase 1: Send an updated CV to the email: ciencia@gfi.org by February 05, 2021, until 23:59 pm (Brasília time), along with a project plan on "Obtaining ingredients from native products of the Amazon and Cerrado biomes", containing: Cover: project title and candidate's name Objective Justification Introduction Schedule Reference To prepare the project plan, you must select a product native to the Amazon or Cerrado biome, which has protein potential for application in plant-based products, justify your choice with technical and scientific basis and market data, state the project objectives, make a brief introduction about the state of the art of research in relation to the selected product, propose a project schedule with the necessary steps to achieve the proposed objectives and cite the bibliographic references used. The project plan can be a proposal for an academic research project or a proposal for an agro-industrial facility for processing and obtaining the ingredient. The project plan must be a maximum of 4 (four) pages long, written using "Times New Roman" font, size 11, and must be submitted in PDF format. The file must be named with the candidate's first name and last name (example: Paulo Junqueira Project). CVs and project plans received after the established deadline will be automatically disregarded. Phase 2: The candidate selected in Phase 1 will be invited to give a 15 (fifteen) minute presentation on the project plan presented in the first phase, where they will answer questions about the presentation and then undergo a general interview. The interviews will take place on February 11th and 12th, 2021 in an online format, at a time to be announced later. Keep an eye on the deadlines!
